About Nodak Speedway
Nodak Speedway is a 3/8 mile dirt oval at 2005 Burdick Expressway East in Minot, North Dakota, on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. It races Sunday nights through the summer with a full slate of IMCA classes, and it hosts Motor Magic, the largest motorsports festival in the Upper Midwest, every Labor Day weekend. The World of Outlaws bring both their sprint car and late model series here.
Seventy Years of Minot Racing
The roots go back to 1952, when a group of drivers decided local racing needed direction and organization and formed the Nodak Racing Club. Eleven founding members chartered the club in a house on Burdick Expressway, and with help from one of their own they secured a place to race on North Hill, just west of where the bowling alley stands today.
The first organized season of auto racing in Minot ran in the summer of 1953 on that North Hill track, built with help from a local construction company. More than seventy years later the club's name still sits on the speedway, and racing has continued in Minot ever since.
Sunday Night Racing
The weekly program runs Sunday nights all summer, which makes Nodak one of the few Sunday tracks in the region and a useful anchor for a full racing weekend.
The class list is deep. Regular divisions include IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts, plus INEX Legends and Junior Slingshots. Bigger nights bring in West Dakota Sprints, Western Renegade wingless sprints, dirt super late models and multiple Legends divisions.
Concessions run through race night with the usual burgers, hot dogs and cold drinks, and the grandstand viewing at the fairgrounds is genuinely good.
Motor Magic
Labor Day weekend belongs to Motor Magic, the largest motorsports festival in the Upper Midwest. It runs three nights at the fairgrounds, with Nodak Speedway hosting the dirt track racing alongside other motorsports across the property. One of those nights is Nodak Hall of Fame Night, honoring the drivers who built racing in Minot.
Big Nights Through the Season
The rest of the calendar carries real weight too.
The Fourth of July race pairs a full card, including wingless sprints and slingshots, with North Dakota's largest choreographed fireworks show, viewed from the grandstands. The Dakota Classic Modified Tour, one of the longest running IMCA tours in the country and founded in 1990, makes Minot one of its six straight nights each July.
The Magic City Showdown brings the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars to the 3/8 mile. Minot Mayhem brought the World of Outlaws Late Models back to Nodak in 2025 for the first time since 1989. Memorial races through the summer honor figures connected to the track, including the Ole Olson Memorial Stock Car Race and the Bonnie Beeter and Monte Lundy Memorial, with Military Appreciation night on Memorial Day weekend.
Getting There
The speedway sits on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds on Burdick Expressway East in Minot, in the north central part of the state. Fairgrounds access means parking, restrooms and crowd infrastructure built for far larger events than a weekly race.
The track phone is 701-822-7223. Schedules, results and weather calls are posted on the track website, its Facebook page and its MyRacePass listing.
